A seemingly drunk Kelowna man got spitting mad Sunday night, sending two police officers to the hospital in the process.

Mounties started dealing the 40-year-old after they allegedly saw him screaming at  people on Queensway, off Water Street,  just after 10 p.m. Sunday.

“Upon further investigation into his behaviour, it was determined by the officer that the man was intoxicated,” said Const. Kris Clark, explaining that prompted them to stop him from making a disturbance.

“During the arrest, the man bit the RCMP member on the arm and would not let go.”

At that time a passer-by intervened and came to the aid of the officer being chewed on, helping them get out of the attackers grip.

“While being placed into the back of a police transport, the man then spat blood into the face of an assisting officer,” said Clark.

Both officers received treatment to ensure they wouldn’t contract diseases from the man, who is now facing multiple potential charges of Assaulting a Peace Officer, Obstruction and Cause Disturbance.

“We don’t know if this man has any diseases and that will likely be one of the conditions we will be requesting that he be tested so the officers can be treated accordingly,” he said.
