Cuppa tea at the beach
Oak Bay Kiwanis Willows Beach Tearoom opens for the season on Saturday, April 21.
The tearoom at Willows Beach has been in operation for 63 years and is a primary source of revenue for the service club. A staff of 25, including volunteers and paid students, continue to serve up summer treats such as Chapman’s ice cream and popsicles, but is best known for tea, served in a properly warmed pot.
“We’re going to bring in some higher-end items for adults like Breyers or Haagen Dazs bars,” said last year’s tearoom manager Ken Smith. Delphine Straith takes on the post this season.
Original front and side windows were replaced over the winter in the tearoom.
The tearoom is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m through to the end of September. Kiwanis Willows Beach Tearoom: 2740 Dalhousie St., 250-592-1612.
