Black ice causes rollover

Icy roads cause single-vehicle motor vehicle accident near Cluxewe.

Icy roads were the cause of a single-vehicle motor vehicle accident near Cluxewe Resort Dec. 6.

According to Port McNeill RCMP Cpl. Todd Pebernat, the accident occurred “about 5:30 p.m. The vehicle hit some black ice on the bridge which caused the driver to lose control.

“The vehicle rolled a couple of times and came to rest in the oncoming lane on its roof,” Pebernat said.

There were four occupants in the vehicle from Port McNeill – parents and two children. “The driver received minor injuries. “Other than that everyone else was alright.”

Port McNeill RCMP had trucks come and ice the bridge for safety purposes.

As for what to do in these conditions, Perbernat advises drivers to “slow down when the weather is cold. Reduce your speed, and keep your distance.”
