Kelowna Fire Department personnel were kept busy Thursday night, responding to two fires that destroyed a small amount of property and sent two to hospital.
First on the agenda was a structure fire at 402 Laurel Rd that broke out at approximately 8: 30 p.m. Thursday when a pot of grease on the stove ignited.
“Upon arrival fire crews found a four plex with moderate smoke showing from a open front door,” said Kelly Stephens, platoon captain of the Kelowna Fire Department, noting three engines, a rescue vehicle and a command vehicle along with 16 personnel were sent in.
One all were assembled, Stephens said the fire was contained to the kitchen area.
“Two residents of the home had smoke inhalation and where checked over by EHS crews but where not taken to hospital,” he said.
As that was wrapping up, another report of a hedge and fence on fire at 645 Francis Ave just after 9 p.m, Thursday night.
Upon arrival, KFD crews found fire and smoke coming from the rear area of the property, said Stephens.
“Quick action by the first arriving Engine Company contained the fire to the fence, wood pile and tree. A garage nearby sustained a small amount of damage as well,” he said.
Fire and RCMP investigator’s where on scene to determine the cause of the fire. Cause and damage estimate is yet to be determined.
Three engines, one rescue, one command unit and a safety officer for a total of 16 personal responded to the scene with assistance from RCMP.
