Mike Navratil, Fire Chief with the Fort St. James and District Fire Department had a few words of advice about burning brush or grass in the upcoming weeks.

Navratil wanted to make sure if residents are planning to burn on their property to note wind conditions in an effort to ensure fires don’t get out of control. He also suggested having tools and a working garden hose at-the-ready in case the fire should get away from you, and asks that you stay on-site and have extra help tending the area while burning.

Navratil advises to use the necessary precautions while burning, he stated in an e-mail and reminds people that any burning in the District of Fort St. James requires a permit. He also stated all (garbage/debris) should be contained and burned in a pit or barrel.
