The identity of the body that washed ashore behind the Tourism Informatoin Centre in Qualicum Beach on May 26 has been identified.
Coroner Matt Brown confirmed Wednesday that the body was that of 69-year-old William Andrew Pope, who walked away from his home in Qualicum Beach and disappeared in April.
“At this point, no cause of death has been determined,” Brown said. “Generally speaking, autopsy final results usually take about three months. We do have a sense of what the cause of death might be, but it’s very preliminary.”
Brown said the investigation is continuing and members of the immediate family have been interviewed as part of the normal procedure.
