Boil water notice lifted for Comox Valley

CVRD, Island Health say water is safe, recommend letting taps run for one minute

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) and Island Health have lifted the boil water notice for all users of the Comox Valley water system, effective immediately.

The notice has been in effect since Saturday, Jan. 2. The notice came in response to rising turbidity levels at Comox Lake and in the Puntledge River on the weekend.

As of Wednesday, Jan. 6, staff have conducted daily sampling and regular monitoring of the water system, and officials have confirmed water quality in the system is now safely within provincial drinking water guidelines.

This move affects about 45,000 residents in the Comox Valley water system, specifically in the City of Courtenay, the Town of Comox and the Comox Valley Water Local Service Area. Some areas such as Union Bay, Black Creek, Cumberland or Royston operate on different water systems and were not affected by the boil water notice.
