Canoe enthusiasts should mark Oct. 1 on their calendars: the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy has announced that Bowron Lake will be taking reservations for its canoe circuit for the 2018 season as of Sunday at 7 a.m.

The Bowron Lake circuit in the Bowron Lake Provincial Park can be reserved for trips from May 15 to Sept. 23, so the 2017 season has just finished.

The entire circuit is 116 km, and paddlers traverse 10 lakes and several portages to complete the round trip.

For those wanting a shorter trip, the west side of the circuit is also available to book, making up just less than half the circuit and taking between two and four days to complete.

With this scenic wonder just 120 km from Quesnel, residents can easily experience the backcountry canoe circuit.

The Ministry also announced that the reservation list for the Berg Lake Trail in Mount Robson Provincial Park opens Oct. 1.

The Berg Lake Trail is open year round, but can only be reserved for trips between June 17 to Sept. 17. The 23 km trail climbs 800 metres and offers hiking near waterfalls, turquoise lakes and icebergs.

Both the Bowron Lake circuit and Berg Lake Trail can be booked online at www.discovercamping.ca.
