A female stabbing victim was sent to hospital and RCMP have arrested a 22-year-old man after an argument escalated to violence in Bowser early Tuesday morning, Nov. 14.
The victim was taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, where she is recovering from serious but non-life threatening injuries, Oceanside RCMP reported in a written news release.
Police received “multiple” 911 calls at approximately 6:15 a.m. Nov. 14, with callers reporting an alleged stabbing.
RCMP said their investigation determined that a 31-year-old woman was driving in a vehicle with a male passenger when the two got into an argument.
The man then reportedly produced a knife and stabbed the driver, RCMP said. The woman was able to escape the vehicle, but the suspect chased her and stabbed her “several more times” as she attempted to run to safety.
Police did not specify whether the vehicle was in motion or still in the roadway at the time of the initial stabbing.
At 6:40 a.m., Oceanside RCMP arrested the 22-year-old suspect without incident at his Bowser residence. Crown council has approved one charge of aggravated assault and the man remains in custody, police said.
The female victim received immediate care by BC Ambulance and fire personnel. She was taken to the hospital in Nanaimo where she is recovering from serious but non-life threatening injuries.
In a follow-up release issued Thursday afternoon, Nov. 16, Oceanside RCMP stated the attack on the woman was unprovoked, that she was neither impaired or under the influence of any substances, and that she was driving legally at the time the stabbing occurred.
