Geoff Taylor attended the District of Houston council meeting on July 4, 2017 and on behalf of the Bulkley Valley Radio Controlled Flyersto speak to council asking for a reduced rate next year for the use of the Houston airport to host their annual father’s day event.

“We host a flight in the air every father’s day weekend, and have for the past 30 years in Houston,” said Taylor. In the last few years, we have been charged $700 for the use of the airport.”

Taylor said that the Flyers are a non-profit organization and do not charge the participants a registration fee when they come to Houston to fly.

“We’ve never been charged this before, we bring around 30 families or so that brings money into the town, and we are looking to see if we will have this event next year or not, because it is out of our budget,” said Taylor. “We are asking council to look at reducing the fee for next year.”

Taylor said that if the Flyers had to charge a registration fee he could not see people attending, “we would then have to explore other options but we don’t want to have to see that money leaving our town.”

“Thank you for coming to speak to us, we will look into it,” said counsellor Rick Lundrigan, acting deputy mayor for the Houston at the meeting.
