The general open season for moose – which took place from Oct. 20-26, 2016 – was busy as usual for Burns Lake and area conservation officers.
Conservation officers located over 30 loaded firearms in vehicles through compliance checks during the one week season. Loaded firearms in vehicles are considered a “zero tolerance offence” and are typically dealt with through a $230 violation ticket, explained Burns Lake conservation officer Jeff Palm.
“Despite hunter success being quite low this year, one moose and three deer were seized and numerous investigations into illegal harvest are ongoing,” said Palm.
