Two kilograms of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $90.000 was found on a motorist that was stopped for speeding through Burns Lake last week.

Police also seized assorted drug paraphernalia, a small quantity of marijuana and more than $600 in cash.

According to St. Sgt. Grant MacDonald, from the Burns Lake RCMP detachment, the vehicle was stopped for speeding, while heading west through the Village of Burns Lake on Hwy. 16 at 1:40 a.m. on Aug. 30.

During the traffic stop, the officer noted a smell of fresh marijuana, prompting the search of the car.

RCMP entered into an investigation under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and searched the vehicle, finding cocaine in a door panel of the vehicle.

A 44-year-old man from Cumberland, B.C., was arrested and has since been released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court in Burns Lake in December.

RCMP recommended one charge of possession for the purpose of trafficking pursuant to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

“This successful enforcement action demonstrates the Burns Lake RCMP detachment’s commitment to combat illegal activities to reduce crime and promote safe and secure communities,” St. Sgt. MacDonald said.

Burns Lake RCMP are continuing to investigate.
