Burst water main requires repair

This repair, which is said to take a few days, will affect water pressure in homes around Fernie

With files from the City of Fernie

The City of Fernie is currently dealing with a burst water trunk main below Burma Road, that requires an emergency repair.

This repair requires City crews to shut down a trunk main that will impact water pressures throughout Fernie. This will result in a major decrease in water pressure for homes in neighbourhoods at higher elevations including Ridgemont, Castle Mountain and Montane. It will also result in an increase in pressure for homes in the rest of Fernie, and West Fernie.

While the repair is taking place, residents should expect high turbidity levels in the water. If residents do experience turbid water, they are asked to run cold water until the water clears. Where possible, we recommend the use of an outdoor tap.

Residents experiencing other issues with their water are asked to alert the City by calling 250-423-6817. The repair is expected to take several days to complete. Updates will be provided on Fernie.ca.
