Bus loaded with farm workers catches fire in Abbotsford

Nobody was injured in the fire that took place Monday morning on Highway 1 near the Mt. Lehman eastbound exit.

A school bus filled with farmworkers caught fire on Highway 1 in Abbotsford near the Mt. Lehman exit on Monday morning. Nobody was injured.

The operator of a school bus that caught fire Monday morning in Abbotsford has been charged under the Motor Vehicle Act.

Charges include having no insurance and failing to complete a pre-vehicle inspection, according to the RCMP’s Fraser Valley Traffic Services.

The bus was filled with 48 farm workers and was heading east on Highway 1 near the Mt. Lehman exit when its engine caught on fire at about 8 a.m.

All the workers were safely evacuated from the vehicle.
