Traffic could grind to a halt on one of Vernon’s busiest roads.
City council was told by administration Monday that a section of Kalamalka Lake Road could be closed for a couple of months during 2017 for infrastructure upgrades.
“For businesses, they will have to find another way in,” said Mayor Akbal Mund.
It’a anticipated that two-way traffic could be maintained from 14th Avenue to Browne Road, but the narrow terrain may force Kal Lake Road to be closed from Browne Road to the Coldstream boundary.
“Even with one lane, a detour would be quicker than waiting in line for alternating traffic,” said Mark Dowhaniuk, infrastructure management manager.
Dowhaniuk says the city is consulting with businesses to determine the possible timeline for a road closure and how to minimize the impact on businesses.
Along with upgrades to the road itself, the plan is for a multi-use path to also be installed.
“We are planning to start in the spring and be complete by the fall,” said Dowhaniuk.
