The Adams Lake Indian Band (ALIB) has announced a byelection to replace vacant positions in their leadership.

An election will be held to replace three band councillors, Gina Johnny, Brandy Jules and Ronnie Jules, who were removed from their positions in October, and Chief Robin Billy, who resigned effective Nov. 18.

The byelection will be held on Dec. 15, with a nomination meeting held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 24 at the Adams Lake Band Gymnasium 6349 Chief Jules Way.

Nominees must be registered ALIB members with Secwepemc ancestry. They must also be 18 years of age, reside within 65 kilometres of any of the ALIB reservations and must not owe money to the band.

Nominees must also be able to pass a criminal record check and not have been convicted of an indictable offence in the last five years.

According to the ALIB election rules, a list of candidates must be posted within 48 hours after the nomination meeting.

This will be the third byelection at ALIB since the last regularly scheduled election in Feb. 2015.

In August a byelection was held and Ron Jules was elected to replace the band council seat vacated by Deborah Hall.

Another byelection was held in February where band voters elected Gina Johnny to fill Doris Johnny’s position.
