Chilliwack’s labour movement has Dan Coulter’s back.
With just days remaining in the school trustee byelection campaign, former school trustee Louise Piper announced her endorsement of the candidate Tuesday.
“I think he’s going to be an excellent leader for this community,” Piper told The Progress.
Like Coulter, Piper has a strong NDP background. A City of Chilliwack employee, Piper was former president of Chilliwack CUPE 458, representing civic workers in the Fraser Valley.
She served one full term on school board, and was reelected in 2011, placing fifth out of eight seats.
But after months of absenteeism due to health reasons, which she has not publicly disclosed, she resigned from her position as board chair and school trustee in August.
Piper’s endorsement of Coulter is the first time she has spoken to the media since stepping down.
