Construction of the 130,000-sq.ft. McCallum Junction retail development, including a 70,000-sq.ft. store for Cabela’s outdoor outfitters, is underway. Much of the outer structure for the anchor tenant’s building has been completed at the site just north of Highway 1, which formerly housed a trailer park. The project generated much community discussion this spring, and was given approval in June.
The building shell was installed using an overhead crane, and crews are nearly finished installing underground utilities at the site.
The development permit for landscaping, parking, site development and the Cabela’s anchor building was approved by the city in August. The city received a secondary application in November, for additional commercial buildings. On Nov. 20, the city received a development permit application for a 190-unit, four-storey apartment complex beside the site, facing Salton Road.
The expected schedule would see the store opening in the fall of 2016.
