BC Hydro has said that a cable fault is the cause of a recent power outage in Kitimat that left nearly 4,000 customers without electricity for several hours.
According to BC Hydro’s outage map, the outage started at 11:05 a.m.
Shortly after the outage began, Kingfisher Ave. was closed from Gyrfalcon Ave. to Nalabila Blvd. due to a ‘smoking transformer’, Kitimat Fire said.
The street was blocked off for repairs, and Kitimat Fire has since confirmed that this issue was, in fact, the cable fault that caused the outage.
They have since opened a single lane for alternating traffic and foot traffic on the adjacent sidewalk is now allowed.
At it’s peak, the outage affected 3885 customers and stretches north of Dewberry St., west of Wakita Ave., and east of Dyke Blvd.
Power was restored for many customers shortly after 1 p.m., and as of 1:30 p.m., BC Hydro said there were 507 customers still without power.
