From the Cache Creek Council meeting from Apr. 26

Roll Call: Mayor John Ranta and councillors Jim Loucks, Ida Makaro, Wyatt McMurray and Darrell Rawcliffe.

Zoning amendment

Council held a public hearing for Bylaw 750 to accommodate automobile repair shops, paint shops and body shops as a permitted use within the C1 zone.

There were no verbal submissions; there was one written submission which was read by Administrator Tom Kadla. It was from Dean Muir, who supported the amendment. Muir lives on Stephenson Rd. which is zoned C1.

The amendment passed its second and third readings later on in the meeting. It needs to be passed once more and sent to the Ministry of Transportation for their approval.

Financial Audit

Council reviewed its annually audited Financial Statement, conducted by McConnell, Voelkl Chartered Accountants.

Coun. Ida Makaro  noted that investment revenues were down from the previous year.

“The entire investment world is down,” said Coun. Wyatt McMurray, adding that the Village lent money to itself from its reserve funds to pay for the water treatment project.

Chief Financial Officer Lori Pilon said the primary cause was the low interest rate.

Makaro also noted that the surplus was down “considerably”.

“Landfill revenues are down,” said McMurray, “and we’re spending more money.”He said each time Council spends money on a request or new project not in the budget, they money comes out of the surplus.

Mayor John Ranta pointed out that Coun. Makaro was asking about their accumulated surplus, and actually, Cache Creek’s surplus reserves have risen from $5.2 million last year to $5.6 million this year.

Graffiti Days

Coun. Makaro announced that Bill Elliot is the new chair of the Graffiti Days Committee. Former chair Ben Roy is still on the committee.  Their next meeting is May 4.

Info Centre

Makaro also announced that the Visitor InfoCentre will open on May 19, and the Chamber’s Annual General Meeting will be held May 17.

Canada Day

The Elks will host the Canada Day celebrations in the park again, with the support of the Village.

Next Meeting

May 9 at 7 pm.
