Callie, is a 24-year-old woman from Agassiz, B.C, who has suffered heart problems since she was born, resulting in multiple surgeries to repair her heart. When Callie turned 19 in 2016, she was officially diagnosed with heart failure. Callie requires a new heart to survive – and not just any heart, as she can only accept a heart from three per cent of the population due to built up antibodies from blood transfusions.
Callie’s transplant team at St. Pauls Hospital has asked that Callie and her family move to Toronto to better the chance of finding her the “perfect heart.” Her friend started a GoFundMe campaign in the hopes of raising enough funds to provide financial support for travel costs to Toronto, living expenses, and any unexpected costs that will arise. British Columbians have shown their support for Callie and her family during this difficult time, raising more than $2,300 in one day to go toward the cause.
