Did you get a drone for Christmas and would like to test it? Or, are you already proficient and interested in logging some volunteer air time?
Salmon Arm Nature Bay Enhancement Society (SABNES) volunteers have worked hard to create four hummocks to enhance habitat on the Salmon Arm foreshore.
SABNES officials would like to have aerial photos of their development on this critical habitat area of Shuswap Lake.
The hummocks are now covered in snow, but this spring they will be planted to increase bio-diversity along the foreshore Nature Trust land/trails.
“While the trails are closed for the city’s sewer relining works, there’s an excellent look-out/launch spot along 4361 13th St. NE above the Raven subdivision,” says SABNES president Janet Aitken.
As part of the enhancements along the trail, SABNES is also looking for pallets to modify and build waterfowl nesting platforms, cinder blocks to anchor them between the toes of the new hummocks, tree stumps [root wads] with a two- to four-metre log to place for habitat complexity and turtle basking.
Also on the SABNES wish list are 10-15m poles to install this winter for placement of bird and bat boxes.
