Another activist has joined the fight for free hospital parking at Ridge Meadows Hospital.
Grover Telford, a former candidate for Maple Ridge council, said he wants to support Coun. Corisa Bell as she tries to find a way to remove the charges from the parking lot after Russ Curnew and other members of his band were ticketed while giving a charity concert in Baillie House last December.
Telford is forming a group to push the cause.
“It will take a bit of time, but I’m not going to quit. I’m not a lawyer, but I want to research this, unlike council,” he said.
Telford would prefer to have free parking, but even some reductions in fees and fines would be an improvement.
Members of a local group, the Rx Rockers, were slapped with $60 fines after doing a charity Christmas concert at Baillie House. They were ticketed despite having parking passes issued by the Fraser Health facility.
Bell wanted more research done to see if Maple Ridge could pass a bylaw prohibiting pay parking and wanted council to meet with senior politicians and Fraser Health.
But she was voted down at a recent meeting.
Coun. Cheryl Ashlie will first raise the topic at Fraser Health’s next municipal government advisory council meeting.
