Someone’s been ripping off diesel fuel from Lomak Trucking.
The latest theft attempt was reported to Campbell River RCMP on March 12, the third incident to occur in two weeks.
According to police, the company lost fuel the first two times and then installed an anti-theft device which thwarted the third attempt.
On Monday, at 6:55 p.m., police were called to Campbell River Fibre on the Island Highway.
Someone had moved one of their large excavators and a broken spool of wire was located nearby.
“It appears the thieves were trying to move the heavy spool, but encountered problems with the machine and aborted the theft,” said Cpl. Poppy Hallam in a news release.
Too fast, too wet
On Monday, at 5:25 a.m., police responded to a single vehicle collision on Island Highway 19 north of the city.
A 52-year-old Courtenay man was northbound and pulled out to pass two other vehicles when he lost control of his green 2008 Ford pickup and left the road.
Slippery road conditions were a factor.
The man sustained minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Campbell River Hospital.
