Recently RCMP have received several calls about a door to door salesman offering security services which they say is a scam.
In this particular scam, the male asks homeowner if they would like a free security system that is done through a smartphone. In exchange for the system the homeowner agrees to placing a sign advertising for the company on their front lawn. The male has not produced identification and the company does not exist. RCMP would like the public to be aware of these types of scams which sometimes are done by people looking to get information on the resident and their neighbourhood for future crime.
Campbell River City bylaws require that all door to door or direct salesperson display an identification card which has their legal name and business affiliation, as well as have a copy of a business licence.
“Make sure you have done your due diligence and check the background of any company offering service before entering contract with that company. Also if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Don’t be swayed by offers of free services or goods,” said Const. Sara Clark.
