The Campbell River Storm won their VIJHL playoff opener in conclusive fashion, defeating Peninsula Panthers 7-1 at Rod Brind’Amour Arena Friday night.
Zach Erhardt (assist Darren Hards) opened the scoring at 9:22 in the first and the Storm rolled on from there on goals from Reid Wheeldon (unassisted) in the first; Trevor Bottomley (Kobe Oishi, Sheldon Brett); Logan Cursley (Carter Hikichi, Max Daerendinger), Christian Brandt (Bottomley) and Dylan McCann (Cursley, Wheeldon) in the second and then Hikichi (Aiden Sutherland) in the third.
Peninsula broke Storm Goalie Justin Anderson’s shutout bid with a goal by Trevor Owens (Marshall Brown) at 4:20 in the third on a power play.
Next game is away today at 2 p.m. at Panorama Recreation Centre then game three is Monday at Panorama.
The series returns to the Brindy on Wednesday.
