Canada Day celebrations in Abbotsford

A day of family fun including a parade,activities and fireworks

Several activities take place in Abbotsford in celebration of Canada Day on Friday, July 1, including two parades.

A small community parade starts at 9:30 a.m. along Mt. Lehman Road from the post office and credit union to Mt. Lehman Hall at 6418 Mt. Lehman Rd.

Ceremonies follow at 10 a.m. at the hall, with flag-raising, special guests, coffee and cake.

The main city parade begins at 11 a.m. along South Fraser Way, starting from Ware Street and ending in the area of Trethewey and Maclure.

A family festival then begins at 1 p.m. at Abbotsford Exhibition Park (32470 Haida Drive) and includes interactive play zones and pony rides until 5 p.m., as well as food trucks, community displays, hayrides, mini golf and dog flyball demonstrations.

This year also features the BC Summer Games Sports Zone.

Mainstage entertainment from 1 to 10 p.m. features performances by Team T & J, Jada Klein, Her Brothers and Fionn.

Team T & J are uplifting family entertainers from Toronto, while Jada Klein, 15, is a local singer who won the 2014 Valley Voices competition and has released her first single, Puzzle Piece.

Her Brothers have been performing throughout B.C. since 2008 and are made up of three brothers Gabe, Josh and Levi. They recently held a benefit concert for Fort McMurray residents.

Fionn is a twin sister singer/songwriter duo from White Rock who perform an eclectic mix of guitar and mandolin-based folk, country and pop.
