Fireworks lit up the night sky on the waterfront in Sidney Sunday night, marking the end of the first day of Canada Day celebrations in the community.
Earlier, Lt.-Gov. Judith Guichon was the guest of honour at festivities in Beacon Park – featuring Mayor Larry Cross awarding the Mayor’s Community Builder of the Year award to the late Jeanette Hughes.
On the first day of Sidney Days – a weekend celebrating Canada and community, there was a town barbecue, Canada Day cake, music, the colours of an honour guard and a re-affirmation of citizenship by an enthusiastic crowd.
On Monday – Canada’s 146th birthday – the Sidney Lions Club hosts a pancake dinner at 9 a.m. There will be a parade down Beacon Avenue at 11 a.m., followed by family fun and games in Sidney’s Iroquois Park and the ever-popular Build-A-Quick-Boat Race at around 4:30 p.m. on the waterfront.
