A big sound is headed to Golden from the small town of Horsefly, B.C.
Pharis and Jason Romero come to the Golden Civic Centre on Friday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Live Kicks concert lineup.
The couple raise their two children and run a small business crafting custom banjos for elite clientele, and create their unique music, defining their old-timey duos. They have earned themselves the name, “the first couple of Canadian folk” by the British Music Press, and are able to effortlessly evoke deep and heartfelt traditions of folk and country music.
After meeting in 2007, the couple quickly realized they would have a musical and personal future together. When Pharis and Jason play music together, they become one, bringing out their connection and sharing it with the crowd. The Romero’s have travelled across North America and Europe, bringing their harmonic live show to audiences.
“It’s a folk roots kind of performance,” said Kicking Horse Culture executive director Bill Usher.
Pharis and Jason Romero’s latest album, Sweet Old Religion, features all original songs that really display the couple’s beauty, soulfulness, gentle swing, and harmony lines they are known for.
The Romero’s won a Juno award for their 2015 album, A Wanderer I’ll Stay. Together, they have released six CDs, won two Junos, many Canadian Folk Music Awards, and have been featured on Canadian radio stations.
As part of their tour, Pharis and Jason Romero will play in Salmon Arm and Invermere before playing in Golden. Then, the duo heads to Calgary.
If Gillian Welch and David Rawlings are appealing, people in Golden won’t want to miss this show. Those who aren’t familiar with the renowned folk and country musicians can get a taste of something a little new, and expand their favourites to include Pharis and Jason Romero.
Tickets to Pharis and Jason Romero are available in advance at the Art Gallery of Golden or by calling 250-344-6186.
