Cathy Noel hopes to take the big step from successful entrepreneur to a seat in the B.C. legislature, with the B.C. Liberals.
But she knows it will be a challenge.
She’s facing off against New Democrat John Horgan who in the 2013 B.C. election won the riding by more than 6,000 votes.
“From a timing point of view and the support I was receiving it just seemed now was the right time to do it,” said Noel.
Noel owns and operates a small business that has organized local charity events for dozens of not-for-profits across the Island. She is also the race director for two of the largest races on the Island: the Goodlife Fitness Victoria Marathon and the Victoria Goddess Run.
“I’m ready to take my experience as a business owner,, entrepreneur and mother, and use them to make a real difference in our community.”
And she’s a quick study on local issues.
Noel was the first candidate to declare her candidacy back in November and since then has knocked on many doors, attended numerous community events and met with community leaders, all to get a better understanding of what she could do to help the communities in the new Langford-Juan de Fuca riding.
“The top priorities (in the region) are health care and transportation,” she said.
And she’s well aware of the challenges of Highway 14, transit and getting proper medical facilities in Sooke – all projects she believes she can take on with verve.
“It’s been fascinating and we’re in it to win, and do the best job we can.”
