Candidates for federal election open local campaign offices

Candidates in the newly formed South Okanagan-West Kootenay riding are setting up shop in Trail and Castlegar this weekend.

The writ hasn’t been dropped but candidates in the newly formed South Okanagan-West Kootenay (SOWK) riding are setting up shop in Trail and Castlegar this weekend.

With the fixed date for the 42nd Canadian federal election slated for Oct. 19, SOWK candidates have been knocking on doors, attending community events and visiting Greater Trail establishments since early spring.

Liberal Connie Denesiuk takes the campaign trail one step further on Sunday by opening her Silver City office at 1205 Bay Ave.

From 1-2 p.m. the public is invited to meet Okanagan-based Denesiuk and her staff.

The new office will improve opportunities for ongoing communication in the West Kootenay area, she says, and input and queries are welcome.

NDP MLA candidate Richard Cannings opens his West Kootenay campaign office that day as well.

He invites the public to visit the site, located at 2109 Columbia Avenue in Castlegar, from 1-4 p.m.

Cannings hails from Penticton, and says he looks forward to meeting people and hearing firsthand issues that matter in the region.

Conservative candidate Marshall Neufeld will open his West Kootenay office closer to the start of the writ period, confirmed his campaign manager, Levin Njogu.

In the meantime, Neufeld will continue connecting with SOWK voters door-to-door and during weekend events.
