Candlelight Parade takes place Dec. 5

Registrations for parade still being accepted this week

Registrations for the Candlelight Parade have been slow this year, but organizers are optimistic more entries will come in during the final week leading up to the event.

“We’ll be accepting registrations until the day of the parade,” said Kristen Parsons, chair of the parade committee. “It’s free to sign up, free to watch.”

Last year there were about 75 floats, and only 45 have signed up so far this year.

The Candlelight Parade is Mission’s only parade and Western Canada’s largest night time parade, said Parsons, noting it has been running for 31 years now.

“The parade has been around for a very, very long time. Families look forward to it to kick off December,” Parsons added.

Thousands of people across the Fraser Valley enjoy the festive music and bright lights every year, and Parsons believes the parade is also a chance to showcase the community and highlight local businesses.

“We’re bringing families to the downtown area who may not have been here before,” said Parsons.

The Dec. 5 parade will begin at 7:30 p.m. and run along First Avenue, starting at Horne Street and ending at Park Street.

Road closures will take place at 6 p.m. from Murray Street to Haig Street to allow for parade preparations.
