A mudslide occurred on the evening of Saturday, July 11 that resulted in the temporary closure of Teck’s Line Creek Operations main access road.

The slide was not related to mining activity, but was a result of heavy rains over the weekend that hit the canyon located just past the gate of Line Creek’s property, according to Nic Milligan, manager of Community and Aboriginal Affairs at Teck.

Miligan said that no injuries are being reported at this time and employees were transported from the mine site via an alternate road.

The incident is currently under investigation to assess the impact of the slide and to clear the main access road.

“We won’t know more about the overall effects of the slide until the investigation is completed, but thankfully no workers were injured during the event,” said Milligan.

Line Creek operations is located approximately 25 kilometres north of Sparwood.
