Williams Lake residents woke up Thursday morning to snow at higher elevations.
Trees atop South Lakeside and the west side of the city were outlined in a fresh layer of the white stuff as temperatures dropped Wednesday night as forecasted.
Environment Canada issued a special weather alert earlier in the week warning of the early season cold snap. That alert has since ended, however, a highway alert was still in place Thursday for Highway 97 in the area of the Begbie Summit.

Cold, wet weather will persist into the weekend in the Williams Lake area.
Nighttime temperatures will hover around the freezing mark for the next five days and daytime temperatures are only expected to reach 9C until things warm up a bit Monday, Sept. 17.
Northern B.C. was hit hardest by the early bound of winter weather, with 10 or more centimetres of the white stuff falling in Fort Nelson and the Pine Pass.
