There’s some new direction at Vernon Winter Carnival.

The society held its annual general meeting recently and elected a new board of directors to organize the Feb. 6 to 15, 2015 events.

“We are looking forward to an entertaining year,” said newly elected chairperson Doug Edgar.

“We have a great team and a great theme, The Carnival of Rock and Roll. Here in Vernon the winter carnival reflects a community spirit that is truly ours.”

Aside from planning, budgeting and governance, the board of directors are also responsible for running and ensuring the success of a number of the high profile events that the community looks forward to each year. Some of these events include the parade, Hot Air Balloon Fiesta, B.C. Championship Snow Sculpture Competition and the Jopo House Luncheon.

The 2014 – 2015 board of directors consists of:

Vernon Winter Carnival is a community celebration for the entire family. For more than 50 years the community has come together to celebrate Carnival with family and friends. More than 25,000 people participated in the over 100 events in 2014. The Vernon Winter Carnival is the largest Winter Festival in all of Western Canada and the third largest in Canada hosts the only Hot Air Balloon Competition.

The 55th Vernon Winter Carnival will be celebrating Jopo’s 50th birthday.
