Crystal Ratvay’s riot-wrecked car will be replaced.
In the June 15 Stanley Cup riots in Vancouver, Ratvay’s 1990 Chevy Cavalier was among dozens of vehicles that were flipped and smashed.
The former Abbotsford resident, now living in Chilliwack, was in Vancouver to watch the game at a party put on by Mike Didyk, a friend from Abbotsford living in Vancouver.
She parked her car on Seymour Street, and it was among those trashed that night.
Didyk set up a Facebook page to help raise money to replace the vehicle for the 30-year-old woman, who is a part-time student.
Ratvay has difficulty working, as she suffers from post-traumatic migraine disorder, the effect of a serious car crash in which she was a passenger in 2005.
Already approximately $1,000 has come in or been pledged. Last night (Monday) at The Cellar Nightclub on Granville Street, the proceeds from the door were going to the cause.
In addition, three parties – including a woman from Abbotsford – have come forward offering vehicles. One is a 2001 Cavalier that is available for free. Another is a 2003 Cavalier with only 78,000 km. The owner listed it at $5,500, but is willing to take whatever amount is raised.
Burrard Acura also offered an equivalent car, when one comes on their lot.
“Either way, it sounds like she’s going to get a car,” said Didyk. “It’s amazing how people come together, and want to help a complete stranger.”
Ratvay was at a funeral for her grandfather on Monday, and not available for comment.
