'Cash Cab' kills Surrey man

A Surrey man has died after being struck by a mock taxi cab in Vancouver.

The cab, being used for a television show called Cash Cab.

The vehicle was reportedly on its way back to the lot after a shoot just before midnight on Friday, when it struck a 61-year-old from Surrey in the 200-block of East Cordova Street.

The man was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Andrew Burnstein, the president of Castlewood Productions, which films Discovery Channel’s Cash Cab, expressed sorrow over the accident.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and his friends and his family,” Burnstein said in a release. “My heart also goes out to the driver of the vehicle, a member of our technical staff, who is shaken and devastated by this tragic accident, as is our entire team.”

Vancouver Police Department spokesman Lindsey Houghton said the driver involved in the collision was cooperative with investigators, who are still examining the incident. No charges have been laid.

Police continue to look for witnesses.
