The local business community is trying to help one of its own through some trying times.
The Highway 19A upgrades in Parksville have created a “virtual black hole” around the Temple Store to the point where the owners have seen a 60 per cent reduction in business, says Ideal Images owner Bill McKinney.
McKinney, residents, Temple Store customers and the Parksville and District Chamber of Commerce have banded together to create a Cash Mob at Temple Store on Wednesday between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Residents are being urged “to make purchases (over and above what existing customers might spend), wish (the owners) well and enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee,” said McKinney.
“This is a time where community spirit comes together in support of a merchant who is experiencing reduced sales caused by something outside their control,” said McKinney. “The Temple Store was the first place I went to do business when I moved here in 2000. They have everything I need, open convenient hours and always have a friendly word and smile for their customers.” McKinney said a Facebook page has been set up for this event (Cash Mob Parksville/Qualicum BC).
The chamber of commerce is also supporting this initiative with eFlash announcements to all their members. Despite the fact that The Temple Store are not members, Executive Director Kim Burden said “There are two kinds of businesses here in the Parksville area: Members and potential members. We are happy to support the Temple Store in anyway we can.”
City officials confirmed there will be vehicle access to the Temple Store on Wednesday.
