The Regional District of North Okanagan board has agreed to three variances so the Castle at Swan Lake can install a sign on Greenhow Road.

“Other businesses have been given variances,” said Bob Fleming, BX-Swan Lake director, adding that there’s a need to be consistent with the rules.

The variances include waiving the requirement that free standing signs be placed in a landscaped area.

The sign will also be increased from 1.75 square metres to 11.15 square metres and the height will go from six to 9.09 metres.

RDNO will move ahead with a Swan Lake corridor plan for land uses and the process could include a review of commercial signs.

“There are all kinds of technologies to look at and the sign bylaw is out of date,” said Fleming.
