June was definitely one for the record books. The highest temperature ever recorded in Castlegar was set not once, but three times during the month.
The month started off hot, and several daily maximum temperature records were broken. But it was the end of the month that brought in the all time temperature records. On June 27, a new maximum record temperature was set at 41.6 C. But the next day, that record was broken at 42.1 C. That record only held for two days, and on June 30 the temperature at the weather station at the West Kootenay Regional Airport reached 43.9 C.
Nine new daily max temperature records were set during the month as well as thirteen new daily max mean temperatures.
For the fifth month in a row, precipitation was lower than average with June rainfall just 40 per cent of normal. Total precipitation for the month was 28.6 mm, with the average being 72.3 mm.
