Finning in Castlegar will be closing down as of April 17. While the Caterpillar distributor is closing its doors, it plans to relocate its current employees.

“This decision was made as part of a review to make sure we’re meeting our customer needs and operating efficiently,” said Finning’s Hilary Anaka.

“We’re going to continue to serve customers in the area through our resident mechanic. There is going to be a parts dropbox, so parts will be provided to customers in the area. As well, there will be support provided at our Cranbrook branch.”

Anaka said Finning will remain committed to meeting the needs of customers in the Kootenays and they still have a branch in Cranbrook for services.

“We’re doing our best to retain employees and where possible they have the opportunity to relocate to other positions within the company,” she added.

However, with no comments permitted from current employees, it is unknown whether or not any are happy and willing to be moved.

“The decision doesn’t reflect on the profitability of the branch,” Anaka said. “It was made to ensure we deliver our products and services in the most effective and efficient ways to our customers.”

A total of nine employees will be affected by this transition.
