Castlegar broke its weekly COVID-19 case count record with 30 new cases during the period of Aug. 1 to 7, according to the BC Centre for Disease Control.
The city saw its largest case counts of the pandemic in the last three weeks. During the week of July 25 to 31 Castlegar had 18 new cases and from July 18 to 24 there were 29 cases.
The Castlegar area has now had 139 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, with 62 per cent of those cases occurring in the last month.
Nelson nearly doubled its weekly record for COVID-19 cases last week and one person has died from the virus at a long-term care facility in the city.
The Nelson local health area, which includes Salmo and parts of the Slocan Valley, had 74 new cases during the week of Aug. 1 to 7, according to the BC Centre for Disease Control.
During the same period of time Creston added 17 new cases, the Arrow Lakes region had 11, Trail had 10 and Grand Forks had four as the pandemic continues to surge in the West Kootenay.
Interior Health also confirmed Wednesday that one person has died at Nelson Jubilee Manor after one resident and three staff members were infected by the virus.
The new records come as Interior Health leads the province in daily COVID-19 cases.
