A cat burglar is again believed to be prowling the Langley area, say the local RCMP.
There have been two incidents and one arrest after a person or persons tried to break into occupied homes while residents were asleep, said Cpl. Holly Largy, spokesperson for the Langley RCMP.
On March 30, someone broke into a residence and tried to steal a television, Largy said. The suspect didn’t get the TV, but did flee with wallets and cash.
A suspect was arrested shortly after the incident. Largy said he had gained access to a home through an insecure back door.
There was a second break in on April 1.
This time, the suspect took a garage door opener from a vehicle parked outside, and got in through the garage.
The thief took a Rolex watch, a wallet, and keys to a vehicle.
With warmer weather finally here, Largy reminded people to secure their homes when they go to bed at night, they should secure any windows and doors left open during the day.
“Make sure you do one last pass around the house in the evening to make sure all the possible entrance points have been properly secured,” Largy said.
She also warned against leaving garage door openers in cars overnight, especially when parking outside, and to lock inner doors from garages to houses.
With spring cleaning starting up, ladders may be left in yards after washing windows. That can give a criminal a key to upper floors where windows may not be secured.
The last time there was a spate of thefts from occupied houses, one man was charged with five break ins in the fall of 2014. However, by the time investigators had laid charges, they believed their suspect had left the province.
