Cat rescued from shaft

The Surrey Fire Rescue’s Technical Rescue Team was called to an apartment in the 13300 block of 108 Avenue Thursday morning after a cat had been found in a ventilation shaft.

A firefighter was lowered down 30-35 ft and was able to get cat into an enclosure.

The cat was hoisted out and into the hands of an awaiting official with a local kitty rescue society.

The cat has been taken to a veterinarian for observation and the society will then look for the owner.
