Cause still unknown

Investigators have been at a fire scene at Hawk’s Landing on Mt. Revelstoke Place

The cause of a spectacular townhouse fire in Vernon remains a mystery.

Investigators have been on scene at Hawk’s Landing on Mt. Revelstoke Place since two townhomes sustained significant fire damage Saturday.

“We have a pretty good theory of the cause but we’re trying to prove it,” said Lawrie Skolrood, a Vernon deputy fire chief.

“Chances are we won’t find the answer to the ignition source.”

Every possibility has been considered.

“People are suggesting electrical but there’s no evidence. People are suggesting the barbecue but we haven’t found that,” said Skolrood.

Beyond the two units that sustained widespread damage the siding on another unit was melted and there’s smoke damage in a fourth unit.

It’s believed the damage could be valued at about $750,000.

Skolrood would not speculate on how long the investigation may take.
