The latest CCRD board meeting was held June 9, 2016 at the CCRD office in Bella Coola.

The latest CCRD board meeting was held June 9, 2016 at the CCRD office in Bella Coola.

Interior Roads Quality Manager, Doina Varzaru, and Roads Foreman (Interior Roads contractor), Pat Gunderson,  made a presentation on the summer plans for the Bella Coola Valley.  Highway 20 line painting will be completed later this summer, and efforts will be made to ensure that roads which need maintenance attention will be addressed where possible.

Questions and concerns that were raised by the board and constituents will be included in a letter to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, specifically about: selection criteria for paving side roads; lack of overall community consultation surrounding the Highway 20 paving project; and hiring practices.

Litter in Bella Coola Townsite was cleaned-up this spring thanks to the hardwork of Sir Alexander Mackenzie High School students and a donation by Interior Roads.

Additional highlights from the CCRD board meeting include: LeftSide Partners, contracted to perform the CCRD Governance and Service Delivery Analysis and Study, visited the Bella Cool Valley mid-June and commenced the consultation process by interviewing staff, board of directors, and some community groups.

The Economic Development Advisory Committee’s (EDAC) recommendation to support the development of a Grant Writer position in 2017 through the Northern Development Initiative Trust’s Grant Writer Support Program was endorsed.

Funding is being pursued to proceed with the update of the Bella Coola Valley Official Community Plan which has not been updated since 1998.
