Work converting Cedar Secondary School to an elementary stopped in January, with the job half done, now the task of reopening it as a high school in September, 2016 is underway, including meetings with school staff and the community in June, July and August.
In the meantime many secondary students in the Cedar and Cinnabar Valley area are making plans to get to Ladysmith Secondary to attend classes during the 2015-2016 school year.
Nanaimo-Ladysmith School District’s Director of Planning and Operations Pete Sabo updated the district’s Business Committee May 13 on bussing plans from the Cedar area to Ladysmith Secondary.
To receive bus service students have to: live in Woodbank/North Cedar Intermediate or Cinnabar Valley catchment areas; and must register for the service.
In early May, Cedar and Cinnabar Valley area students and parents received a letter from the district offering two options for the coming year – they could choose to attend John Barsby Community School in Nanaimo or Ladysmith Secondary.
Once responses have been compiled, the district will create a draft bus route for students who have chosen Ladysmith. Then, after consultation with LSS, the Transportation department will develop a final bus route plan, which will be available on the district website at sd68.bc.ca next month.
