Forest service officials say the fire out at Cedarvale 59 kilometres east of Terrace is almost extinguished, with a crew doing final dousing of small spots that are still smoking.

The two hectare blaze, which started late afternoon on July 8 beside Hwy 16, destroyed a tractor and an outbuilding on a Cedarvale property and forced the evacuation of one residence for the night.

At the height of the fire there were 30 fire fighters working on the blaze and two airplanes helped douse the flames. Today there is a crew of 14 doing the mop up, says Northwest Fire Centre official Olivia Pojar.

Hwy 16 was shut down for about an hour and a half yesterday and has since reopened, she said.
