CENTRAL SAANICH — The Tsawout First Nation and District of Central Saanich along with other Douglas Treaty Nations, are hosting a day-long event on Mon., Feb. 6 to commemorate the Treaty of 1852.
There will be a forum to exchange thoughts, views and opinions via seminars, discussions, lectures and a ceremony on the Douglas Treaty.
“This is a great opportunity to educate those that occupy our Saanich territory, to give a snapshot of what the Douglas Treaty should be doing for us,” said Tsawout Chief Harvey Underwood.
“With 2017 marking an important step forward and toward reconciliation with indigenous communities in towns and cities across Canada, this will further mark our opportunity to strengthen the already unique relationship that Central Saanich shares with the (Tsawout) First Nation,” added Central Saanich Mayor Ryan Windsor.
