Charges have been laid in a fatal motorcycle crash in Rutland last March that killed a father and grandfather from Kelowna.
Jules Kreeft, 59, had one daughter, two sons, and was a grandfather of six when he and his wife, Vivian, were crushed between a SUV and a van on Harvey Avenue at Cooper Road.
The crashed occurred on March 20, 2012, when a black Jeep Cherokee hit the Kreefts from behind as they rode their Harley Davidson motorcycle, smashing them into a white Dodge van.
“The Kelowna man was rushed to hospital, but died from injuries he sustained in the crash. The woman suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries,” said Cnst. Kris Clark, Kelowna RCMP spokesman, in statement released the next day.
In that same statement, Clark indicated the pair may have been hit because the driver of the Jeep was talking on a cellphone.
Last week, Mark Sameer Batraki was charged with driving a motor vehicle without due care and attention.
The death marked the seventh from a crash in the first three months of 2012, prompting warnings from police to pay attention while driving.
